The Surprising Truth About Food in Rome

If you’re searching the world for the best food, Rome is where you need to go.

The food in Rome was delicious, fresh, to be savored, and tasted like an Italian grandmother made it (maybe she did!)

It was EXACTLY how I imagined it,

CHEAPER.

The average meal out for two people  was in between 30-40 Euro.

This includes:

  • a large bottle of wine
  • water
  • appetizers
  • two main dishes
  • coffee
  • a dessert

This is cheaper than dining almost any place in the world I’ve been, aside from Asia.

The portions were large, the food was delicious, and the restaurants were cute and cozy. Obviously, you can go for much more expensive, but why?

This includes: the restaurants, (most) gelaterias, bars, and the supermarket.

At the supermarket, we bought enough food for 4 days of breakfast and snacks and the occasional lunch (and we had a lot of food leftover):

  • eggs
  • 5 kinds of cheeses
  • 2 bottles of wine
  • 2 beers
  • salmon (for my friend – I’m a veggie)
  • 2 loaves of bread
  • vegetables (tomatoes, lettuce, pickled veggies, onion) and sauces (balsamic vinegar, olive oil)

For all under 50 Euro. This was not even the cheapest supermarket available – it was a nice grocery most conveniently located to our Airbnb.
