Koh Mook, Thailand

Koh Mook Thailand Sunset

When my sister came to visit and I absolutely overpacked our trip, one of the islands that we visited was Koh Moon.

The island is tiny, with no usable wifi, and only a handful of hotels. Its main draws are the allure of seclusion and BEAUTIFUL sunsets.

For this photo, my sister and I were having a fabulous and inexpensive Thai dinner in a restaurant perched on the cliff that borders the beach of Koh Mook, and were surprised by the quick and fiery sunset.

Because of its lonely location (unless that is what you’re looking for), I would recommend only 1 night at Koh Mook, so that you can watch the spectacular sunset in the evening, and then wake up early for a kayak trip to the nearby ocean cave, before taking the ferry to your next destination (perhaps Koh Lipe or Koh Phi Phi?)

Honestly, neither of us really enjoyed Koh Mook. Aside from sitting on the very empty beach and that brief kayak trip, there was literally nothing to do or see. We ended up cutting our stay short and heading back to Koh Phi Phi, which was more of our style.

Hi Hans – from the Gulf of Thailand you’ll need to take a bus (or flight from Surat Thani) to Krabi or Phuket (or you could go all the way down to Trang as well), and then take a ferry from there. Any of the tourist operators from the island you’re on should be able to sell you a combined ferry/bus/ferry ticket to Koh Mook.
