Koh Mook, while not one of my favorite islands, had some of my favorite sunsets (I’ve featured another photo here). It also is especially memorable for me, because I visited it while on a sister trip.
I’m sharing this sunset today because I MISS MY SISTER! In a good year, I see her twice, for one to two weeks each. It’s never enough time. One of major negatives about living abroad is definitely the time away from family and friends. But one of the positives? You don’t take time with them for granted.
So when my sister visited, we tried to make the most of our time together. Maybe we tried to make a bit TOO MUCH of it, as I planned island after island in her less than two week visit. One of them being Koh Mook.
KOH MOOK
Koh Mook is teeny tiny and not very well known at all. There’s almost no virtual wifi (or at least, there wasn’t at my time of visit in 2014).
If you’re looking for privacy, seclusion, and some absolutely amazing sunsets, Koh Mook is for you! The beach is almost deserted, but a bit overgrown and not that pretty as compared to other Thai beaches.
There are really cool kayak excursions (self guided but easy), including into a cave (bring a flashlight and make sure to go in the morning, as the cave fills up throughout the day, making kayak passage impossible and dangerous).
Koh Mook is an easy stopover between Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lipe, and the ferry in either direction makes two stops at the island throughout the day. While it’s a good stopping point on what would otherwise be a very long ferry, it’s not an island that I would promote as a destination in itself.
But then again – the sunset is pretty unreal!
It looks really beautiful in the photos ! Wish I could be there now instead of doing my lousy job !

Koh Mook was really beautiful, mainly the sunsets. I hope you have a chance to go someday! Good luck with your job!
