Koh Phi Phi Sunset

Koh Phi Phi Thailand Sunset

Koh Phi Phi is one of those islands that you love or hate.

I love it.

Yes, there is almost nothing Thai about it, and its full of some major debauchery and is one of the top 5 sluttiest places on the planet. Most likely. And the most famous, main beach is also an outlet for sewage (doubt it until you find yourself surrounded by bits of crap (literally) and shredded toilet paper.. then go find Nice Beach)

But it is also incredibly beautiful. This photo from a sweaty hike to the View Point is one of my few, and isn’t great. But I was enjoying the sunset and friendship. And deprioritized my already poor photography needs.

The island holds some amazing memories with a few of the people I love the most.

In addition to infamous Slinky, and that bar where you can Thai-box someone to win a free bucket.. Koh Phi Phi has a lot to offer.

It’s where I got my bamboo tattoo, where I took my sister (twice, as we decided to bail on Koh Mook). It’s where I relearned my love for snorkeling.

It was Koh Phi Phi that furthered my sister’s obsession with Indian food (okay, and mine).

I love that the island has no cars, and that you’ve got to walk around the whole place. It reminds me of (much much much) quieter and (much much much) quainter Mackinac Island from my home state.

I like the relaxation of no tuktuk drivers hassling, no taxis hustling, and just going wherever your feet want to take you.

The winding, confusing streets hide so much, and it feels like a real accomplishment when you finally get your bearings. And discover Nice Beach.
